Using Vimeo Live Streams on Strimm
Vimeo has separate event privacy and embedding settings. Both must allow viewers to watch your broadcast outside Vimeo.
Account requirements
Live-enabled paid plan: You need Vimeo Advanced, Premium, or Enterprise with the Events feature added. A paid Vimeo plan without live-event support is insufficient.
Live event: Create a Vimeo live event and broadcast through Vimeo’s production tools or a supported external encoder.
Required settings and link
Event privacy: Select Public, Unlisted, or Embed only—formerly Hide from Vimeo. Private events restrict viewing to the owner and account team members. Password-protected events require viewers to enter a password.
Embed privacy: Set Where can this event be embedded? → Anywhere for the simplest setup. Nowhere blocks embedding; Specific domains can block playback unless the required playback domains are permitted.
Link format: Use the event viewing link:
https://vimeo.com/event/EVENT_ID.Unlisted links: Copy the complete link generated by Vimeo and retain any privacy token or additional URL components. Do not shorten it to the event ID alone.
Correct link: Provide the event viewing link—not the Vimeo management page, encoder server address, or stream key.
Test playback: Start the event on Vimeo and test it on Strimm in a private/incognito browser window while signed out of Vimeo.
Future events: Check the link and privacy settings whenever you create a new event. Do not assume that a previous event’s link will show a new broadcast.
Important: Adding a live link to Strimm does not start the broadcast. The event must be live on Vimeo when viewers are expected to watch it.
